[ORDNANCE SURVEY]:
Ordnance Survey 6-inch Maps of Yorkshire, first edition, sheets 43 to 58 inclusive (Northallerton, Robin Hood's Bay etc].
Southampton: Ordnance Survey, 1852 - 1857. A bound hardback volume containing sixteen six-inch sheets of the first (1850s) survey of Yorkshire. The maps are all backed onto cloth, folded once, and bound into a large folio volume (measuring 67cm by 50cm). The book is bound in quarter brown morocco, brown cloth boards, gilt titling to the spine. Formerly in Humberside libraries, with a discreet stamp to the margins of the several of the maps, there is some rubbing of the backstrip and one of the corners is bumped, but the book and the maps are nonetheless in very good condition overall. The sixteen maps are sheets 43-58 inclusive, covering a strip of Yorkshire from Howgill to Robin Hood's Bay, covering the towns of Northallerton and Catterick, and including (inter alia) the following villages: Egton, Muker, Gunnerside, Grinton, Hawxwell, Downholme, Tunstall, Kirkby Fleetham, Yafforth, Danby Wiske, Osmotherley & Brompton. Publication dates vary from 1852 to 1857.
