Cloth, VG. 80+2pp, b/w frontis, the additional 2 pages ( appendix ) at the rear of differing paper stock, cloth a little rubbed, a nice copy. Ex Libris John Wall ( another! ) with his bookplate. Laid in are sveral related items including a newspaper clippimng detailed the arrest of a John Wall for shoplifting, a b/w postcard of Harvington Hall, an advertising leaflet c 1940 for the Hall, a John Wall bookmark & an ALS on Harvington letterhead from the Rev J D Crichton to the owner of the book about his namesake & possible relation to the original John Wall. Hardback , no dustjacket.
¶ A brief guide to Harvington Hall, a moated Tudor manor house, noted for having seven priest holes, and Saint John Wall, O.F.M., [ 1620 - 1679 ] a popular Catholic priest who after 22 years service in Worcestershire was hanged as being a sympathiser of Titus Oates. The book maintains that Wall used Harvington as his base for some 12 years.
