BLUNT, G.
The smaller moths of Shropshire: their status, distribution and ecology
Field Studies Council 2014 , . . . NEW. . Based on approximately 18,500 records covering over 800 species, this is the first ever published atlas of the smaller moths Microlepidoptera) of Shropshire. Located in west-central England on the border with Wales, Shropshire offers a wide diversity of habitats over an altitudinal range from below 100m to above 500m. Its topography produces climatic patterns that strongly influence moth distributions, and it stands at a crossroads where species of warm, dry lowland Britain meet those of the cool, wet uplands. This book describes the status and distribution of Shropshire’s smaller moths and examines their relationships with climatic factors, habitat types and host plants. It explores evidence of long-distance migration and local and regional dispersal, and discusses the impact of habitat management on smaller moth populations. [9781908819215]

BOARDMAN, P. (ED.)
A Provisional atlas of the shieldbugs and allies of Shropshire
Field Studies Council 2014 76, col photos. 245x175 mm. PB. NEW. . Shieldbugs have been little studied in Shropshire until very recently. Since 2009, a concerted effort has been made to map their distribution in the county, resulting in over 3000 new records. Along with a number of historical records from a range of sources, these form the basis of this new county atlas. Both true shieldbugs (Pentatomoidea) and their allies the squashbugs, leatherbugs, spurge bugs and scentless plant bugs (Coreoidea) are included.Shropshire is a large inland county containing a great deal of habitat diversity within its boundaries. Much of the county is rural. Lowland North Shropshire, with its outstanding Meres and Mosses landscape, contrasts with uplands of the Shropshire Hills in the south. The River Severn, flowing right across the county from west to south-east, is an important ecological corridor for many animals, including shieldbugs. This atlas is one of a number to be published examining the distribution of some of Shropshire’s invertebrate groups. The atlases follow an upsurge in entomological interest in Shropshire that has been encouraged by the Invertebrate Challenge Project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.. [9781908819123]
