There is some fading to the spine, and some light splash marking to the cloth; very slight splits to the head of the upper joint and the foot of the lower joint. Inked presentation on the front pastedown from the Hon. R. W. Clive, which has offset slightly to the free endpaper. The engraved frontispiece has a large semicircular damp mark on the top margin. There is some scattered light foxing, but otherwise a very good copy of an uncommon book. Vg/N/a.

Map Pigot & Co, London and Manchester, 1839. Edition Unstated, Softcover. Very Good/No Dust Jacket. Dated from reference to British Library catalogue and title-page of atlas. This is the coloured map titled "Staffordshire" and sheet entitled "Staffordshire". The map, a hand-coloured (prior to initial binding) steel engraving contains a vignette of Lichfield Cathedral. The inner side of the Staffordshire county boundary is coloured yellow, inner boundaries of adjacent counties of Derbyshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Cheshire and Shropshire are coloured pale green, blue or pink. Wooded areas and rough ground are indicated. Country estates are coloured dark green. The map shows cities, market towns, villages and hamlets, the distance between the towns and cities and London is shown, also shown are the numbers of members returned for each borough and polling places. Towns shown include: Abbots Bromley, Bilston, Brewood, Burslem, Burton, Cheadle, Eccleshall, Fazeley, Hanley, Lane End, Leek, Lichfield, Newcastle, Penkridge, Rugeley, Stafford, Stoke, Stone, Tamworth, Uttoxeter, Walsall, Wednesbury, Wolverhampton, distances between these towns are given in a table on the accompanying sheet. Mail roads, Turnpike roads, cross roads, lanes and other minor routes are shown with distances marked between Market Towns on the Turnpike Roads. Railways, rivers and canals are shown, including the Grand Junction Railway and the River Trent. Mail and Turnpike roads and towns and principal villages in the neighbouring parts of adjacent counties are also shown. The boundaries of the "Hundreds" are shown and the names of each Hundred are identified in the key. The edge of the page has very slight tears and the very corners have been folded. The accompanying printed sheet is still bound to the map page and has corresponding corner creases.
