St. Ives, Pidley & Somersham - Huntingdonshire Estate Sale 1855 - with Large Scale Coloured Map
Kings Lynn, Edward Johnson Solicitors. 1855, 1st Edition. Folded to Folio. A folio (approx 20" by 12") poster advertising the sale of the estate of Mr Edward Johnson at Old Hurst, Pidley and Somersham, Huntingdonshire, being near to the town of St Ives, and the residence known as Pidley House. The poster is the front page of a ten sheet catalogue of the auction, a double page of which is a large coloured map (24" by 20") of the estate focused on the junction just south of Pidley. Names of owners bordering the estate, named on the map include, William Ingle, Ibbott Mason, Samuel Hillyard, John Vye, James Hempstead, Thomas Ekins, Samuel Brown, C.Sweeting, John Asher, Thomas and William Holmes, C.Margetts, G.P.Cherry, William Faux, Freeman Anniss. One sheet of the document is a handwritten agreement, detailing the sale of lot 14 to the Eastern Counties Railway Company for the sum of £150. The sale is to take place at 3 O'clock at the Rose and Crown, Somersham on July 26th 1855. The scedule folded as usual - unfolds to folio size and the detailed coloured map is 25" x 19". See scans. Condition very good with a little wear to edges. Map though very folded is in very good condition. Very Good.

History and Antiquities of the County of Norfolk
Norwich - J. Crouse. 1781. Hardcover. Book, A superb set of this very scarce history of Norfolk. Very rarely seen and then only in individual volumes. Seven leatherbound volumes with gilt detailing to the spine, marble paper covered boards and marble foredge. Volume IV - X only. Seven scarce volumes of local interest. Only Volume I islisted on COPAC. Volume IV contains the history of East Flegg, West Flegg and Forehoe. Volume V contains details of Freebridge and Gallow, with two plates. Volume VI details the history of North Greenhoe, South Greenhoe, Grimshoe and Guiltcross, with one plate. Volume VII contains the history of Happing, Henstead, Holt, Humbleyard and Loddon, with six plates. Volume VIII contains the history of Launditch, Mitford and Shropham, with four plates. Volume IX details the history of Smithdon, Taverham, Tunstead, Walsham, and Wayland. and Volume X is wholly concerned with The City and County of Norwich. Condition: The volumes have been rebound. The bindings are tight and firm with all covers and pages securely attached although the title pages are missing from Volumes IV, V, and VII. There is some wear to the extremities including bumping to the corners and heavyrubbing to the leather and boards. There is a large chip to the bottom of the front board of Volume VII. Internally the pages are generally clean and bright with the occasional handling mark andodd spot. There is a small tear with loss to the first page of VolumeIV though this does not affect the text. Overall the volumes are in very good condition. Very Good.
