The committee examined the petition from Leicesters framework knitters that the process of making stockings from cut-up rather than woven materials was injurious to their trade. The workmen alleged that the mass produced article was of a poor quality but that the inferior workmanship could not readilly be observed by the public who were deceived and the workmen injured.
