Printed for the author and sold by Ellis and Elvey, London, 1891. Limited edition of 128 copies, this no 41. Once blue cloth boards (now rather brown), gilt lettering to spine and front cover, no dustwrapper. 10.5ins x 8.25ins, xxii, corrigenda, 518pp, 41pp (appendices & index) plus frontis plate of the hall. Lawford is situated in the Tendring area of Essex. (source for identity of author is Essex Review vol one, 1891 p62/3). The most frequently mentioned characters in this history are William Lord Mountjoy and the Marquess of Exeter - both from the 1520's/1530's. Original spine has been relaid with some loss. New endpapers. Original free endpaper browned and contains a gift inscription dated 1907. G copy of a scarce title. Nb heavy book (2.2k pre packing) please e-mail for postage quote.

Printed and sold by W.Keymer, Colchester, 1803, 1st edition, 2 volume set. Full leather binding with replacement leather spines. Gilt lettering on black patch to spine. 7.5ins x 5ins. Volume one:Frontis, title page, 276pp text, 22pp appendix. Volume two: Frontis, title page, ii, 232pp text, 3pp index plus 4pp tissue guarded engraved plates. Both volumes have a stamp to the bottom of the title page saying ""the Rendel Harris Library"". Volume two also has a bookplate from the Woodbrooke Library, Birmingham on the front paste down and the words Maria C. Fairfax Library on the front free endpaper. There are no other library markings throughout the books. Internally there is scattered light foxing/browning throughout both volumes.Externally, the corners are worn with some loss of leather. The replacement spines are attractive but do not exactly match the tree calf of the boards.
