JOHN NASH & KATHERINE A ESDAILE:
Bucks (Buckinghamshire); a Shell Guide.
London: B T Batsford, no date [1936]. First edition (hardback). 8vo (25cm by 20cm), 46pp. Plates, text illustrations, 2pp colour maps. Bound in mottled grey cloth, gilt titling to the spine. The front board is a little dusty, else this copy is in very good condition. Several of the pre-WW2 Shell Guides can be found in this grey cloth binding, and opinion is divided as to why the books were bound up this way. The most convincing suggestion I have heard is that they were used as publisher's rep's samples. This book is in a slightly larger format than the more commonly seen softcover issue, which measures 23cm by 18cm.
