[tp]+431pp, b/w frontis, 7 engraved plates, Ex Libris William Blair 24th Laird of Blair with his bookplate to the pastedown & smudged signature to the title, bound for Blair by Carss & Co Glasgow with their ticket to the pastedown with 'Blair' in gilt to the base of the spine. Lightly foxed throughout & with a marginal water stain to approx half of the text block which just reaches the letterpress on a few pages and affects 4 of the plates, leather a little rubbed but still an attractive copy. Hardback , no dustjacket.
¶ Third edition of Abel François Villemain's series of lectures on various literary authors including Montaigne, Montesquieu, Milton, Fenelon etc etc. Abel François Villemain [ 1790 - 1870 ] French author & politician who had a profound effect on his pupils at the Sorbonne with these essays. William Blair [ 1782 - 1841 ] 24th Laird & onetime MP for Ayrshire . Blair Castle in Ayrshire had been in the continual possession of the Blair familiy until the Estate was sold in 2011.
