Blue cloth boards with gilt title. xlviii + 325pp text with Plans and line drawings + 120 Plates with the Folding map and Conversion Card in rear pocket present. The second of the seven volume series on Argyll published by the Royal Commision for Ancient & Historical Monuments in Scotland - the series, started in 1911 still covers less than half the land mass of Scotland - such is the attention to detail. Finely produced and illustrated. Book is fine and tight without marks or signatures and is apparently unused in the original stout cardboard box in which it was issued. D/w is priceclipped wirth a new price label (£45) attached alongside. It is clean and unfaded. Superb collectable or presentable copy. Heavy book - may require extra postage at cost. See scans. Oban, Pubd. House of Lords. 1881, 1st Editions. Original Gilt Titled Boards, Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. 4 parliamentary papers bound and paginated together comprising Minutes of Proceedings, Minutes of Evidence and further Minutes of Proceedings and Minutes of Speech totallng 75 folio pages. Proceedings lasted from March 8th to March 11th 1881 and appear complete. Bound in pebbled cloth wth gilt titling on front board " Minutes of Procedure Oban Burgh Bill 1881". Contention surrounds liability of Callander & Oban Railway Company to be rated for roads and a new town water supply for Oban. Generally in very good condition - but a few relevant marginal pencil notes and boards faded. One corner badly knocked. Small inscription on front pastedown ? NBR (North British Railway). Rare. Glasgow, John MacKay. 1902, 1st Edition. Original Green Cloth, 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Author's Presentation Copy, xvi+308p + map of Kintyre. The Editor, who was also the publisher, edited "Celtic Monthly". The author Cuthbert Bede, the pen name of Rev. Edward Bradley of Grantham, wrote this work about 1870 , some 10 years after his major work "Glencreggan, or a Highland Home in Kintyre" was published. The author's death prevented its publication and 30 years later MacKay purchased the manuscipt and published in 1902. The Editor records his discovery of a MacDonald Castle at Simerby near Campbeltown. Subjects covered include the Lords of Lorne, the Kintyre Club, Argyllshire's smugglers, Paul Jones the pirate, Saddell Castle, West Loch Tarbert, Carradale, Skipness, the Land's End telegraph and etc. This copy signed and dated 1902 by the author gifting it to James Tong, Esq, The book is reasonalbly tight though there is some movement in the binding with superficial splitting of the hinges, though the original brown endpapers are intact. Some rubbing of the bottom and top (especially) of the spine, the edges and corners. Boards slightly dusty and a few minor marks. See scans and email for more. Near Very Good/No d/w (as issued?).

No inscriptions,Both volumes have been recsased (none to well) in original boards with new endpapers some while ago. Some reading wear and handling marks together with some foxing of the facing tissue to the plates and a little on the plates themselves. Boards and edges rubbed with corners knocked. Owner's signature on title page of Vol.II only All plates present but last plate of Largie Castle has been reinserted crudely and is in part stuck to the text.
