First edition hard back binding in half black leather covers, gilt title to the spine, sea green cloth covers, top edge gilt, fore and lower page edges untrimmed. 8vo. 8'' x 5''. Contains 144 printed pages of text. He wrote The Ecclesiastical History of Scotland from the Episcopal point of view, and several songs of which The Reel of Tullochgorum and The Ewie wi' the Crookit Horn are the best known, he also rendered some of the Psalms into Latin and kept up a rhyming correspondence with Robert Burns. Few worm holes, thinning of the paper and finger marks to the front end papers. Aberdeen Booksellers label inside.

Author's Own Copy, Unique author's own copy of this comprehensive local history of the Royal Parishes. viii, 468pp gilt top edge with frontis plate and 44 mounted plates throughout. The author was Minister of Crathie and Domestic Chaplain to the King. Authors bookplate and tipped in letters from I.B.Burnet , a long letter in original envelope from Mr A M Mackintosh Clan Historian of the Hermitage, Nairn and James F Leishman all in praise of the book. Additionally a tipped in copy letter from Ramsay MacDonald to the publishers in praise of the book and a handwritten note on verso recording that the King and Queen gave a copy of the book to Ramsay-MacDonald when prime minister and inscribed it to him in their own handwriing. Book is tight and clean though a little toned and light foxing - mostly of the prelims. The boards show signs of use with wear of the edges and corner damage. Gilt titling bright. Still VG. Very large and heavy book - will require extra postage at home and abroad at cost. See scans and email for many more. Very Good/No Jacket. Signed by Author.

Four sections: Description of the Braemar Highlands - Earliest Traditions of Braemar - Rise of the Farquharsons - Rebellion of the '15 and '45. The last chapter follows the arrival of Balmoral as a Royal Residence. Bound in full calf prize binding with gilt coat of arms on front board and gilt design on spine with label. The book has been rebound (not recently) using the original boards and spine with the prize label preserved and pasted on the front pastedown.
