"An intelligent and very amusing work, designed as a supplement to Pennant's Scottish Tour" (Lowndes). Much on North-East Scotlad -Fife & Aberdeenshire; also Caithness, & Sutherland. Plates of the Bullers of Buchan (3), Forres Pillar, Elgin Cathedral, Beaulieu Abbey, Caithness, Oldwick Castle and Fort George. There is a long separately indexed section about Torfeus (p121-173) at the end Proabably contemporary full calf with raised bands and red title label on spine. A very attractive copy which is clean, tight and without foxing, marks or signatures. Closed tear easily repairable on page 1 and appropriate wear to corners. See scans. Fine.

Sepia photographic "frontispiece" (tipped onto title page) of Brucklay Castle. New Deer, Aberdeenshire. Dingwall Fordyce family history "showing descent from the first known progenation of either name - both Direct and Collateral" with Appendix containing notice of individuals and families incidentally referred to".The bulk of the book contains details on 962 individuals "alphabetically arranged..to show an account of individual members and connections by marriage". Original brown blind stamped cloth - slighly rubbed and marked with some wear to top and bottom of titled spine. Tight but for one double page loose. Signed by previous owner "William Horn" - Horn family mentioned in text. Vol.2 was published in 1888 and is titled "An Addenda to Main Record of Vol.I and an appendix". 178p in darker brown pebbled cloth boards with a similar blind stamp motif as vol.1 on boards and gilt titling to the spine.Sepia photo of Alex. Dingewall Fordyce of Brucklay as frontis and duplication of the title page of Vol.1 opposite Title page for Vol.2 which follows. Handwritten dedication from author on fep to Major Gibson (his Cousin).
