An important contribution to the field of Egyptology, this work offers a informed and expansive history of Ancient Egypt. Georg Ebers was born in Berlin in 1837. A novelist and a scholar in the field of Egyptology, Ebers contributed significant archaeological findings to his chosen field, the most impressive being the uncovering of a detailed medical papyrus. To this day it remains one of the most important examples of Egyptian papyrus ever discovered, and is also believed to be one of the oldest examples of medical documentation in the world. This work is translated from the original German into English by Clara Bell, as important translator of the 19th and 20th century. Fluent in several languages, including Norwegian and Russian, Bell is noted for her translation of the work of Henrik Ibsen as well as Georg Ebers. Minor rubbing, also to the spine, as well as to the joints, boards and extremities. Small split front joint, with the cloth to the rear joint completely split, resulting in backstrip lifting from the text block. A small amount of cockling to the front board. Scratch to the rear board, resulting in a small amount of loss. Handling marks to the rear board. Front and rear hinges strained, and have become partially detached from the text block. Minor offsetting to the front and rear endpapers, with spotting to the rear pastedown and endpaper. There is also evidence of pencil marks to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are agetoned, with the odd spot throughout. Spots heavier to the rear of plates. Incomplete, with a missing plate to vol I, facing page 289. Overall Condition: Good. Very Good.

Cockling to the rear endpaper and pastedown of vol I, alongside a small amount of mildew. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are agetoned, with the odd spot throughout. Agetonig and spotting heavier to the first and last pages. One plate from vol II, facing page 103, is detached but present. Previous owners ink inscription to the half title page of vol II. Overall Condition: Good. Very Good.
